Las Vegas intelligent street lighting may with surveillance function

Recently, Las Vegas is updating street light, according to the official website of equipment manufacturers, the intelligent LED street lighting not only provide illumination, also can play music, supply transportation information, climate and digital advertising, while also able to interact with passersby, with warning light and can be installed video and audio recording equipment. So the government can oversee pedestrians, and record their conversations on the excuse of protecting homeland security. There are similar lights in Britain and the Netherlands, it can denounce passers-by when they littering Cigarette butts.

One of Public Works Department traffic engineer said, this street lamp can be remote controlled through the iPad and other devices with Wi-Fi. Equipment manufacturers said this LED street light is dimmable. Currently it is testing around municipal government in Las Vegas, later will be installed on the road in the future.

However, in June this year initiated massive burst of the U.S. government monitoring the public secretly, many people afraid to be monitored, and this monitoring functions streetlight is worries for Las Vegas residents.
